On the recommendation of my close and experienced friends, Tristan & Casey, we read the book “Contented Little Baby” and tried to follow it as strictly as possible such that Noah had a regular schedule and we could have a sort-of social-life.
Needless to say, adoption didn’t work fully and we sort of gave up in month 2.5 to 3.
I do want to get full-nights back so under the advice of the book and some experienced friends, we are doing sleep training where we let Noah do a 10pm and midnight feed, and then ignore the cries thru the night. Here’s the tale of our experience.
He’s 5.4kg now and normally does 1 night feed at around 2-3am. Sometimes around 6am too. This has to stop.
Last night we had a feed at 930pm and he went to sleep. 3+ hrs later we woke him up to top him up before we went to bed. 930pm feed was full (130ml) but the midnight one was about 100ml. Quite expectedly cos prorata of the time to digest food.
To achieve our nights rest, we put him in the nursery with his regular cot and that seemed to work fine.
He went down as expected after that and only work up and started to cry at 3am. We went in to check, change diaper cos it was wet, and make sure it wasn’t anything sinister. Since it wasn’t, we left him and went back to bed. This was the first time we let him cry thru the hunger and it must have lasted 45minutes. Then he went back to sleep.
On cue, he work again at 6am and we checked again, this time the crying went on for abt 30minutes and then it stopped.
When we went to see him at 7am, he was all smiles and he happily accepted the morning feed.
Tonight is night #2. Hope it gets better.
