I’m just back from the pediatrician today. We were lucky enough to see Assoc Prof Daisy at SGH. She’s really knowledgeable and yet not overbearing – at all.
After about 2 weeks at home and lots of burp-thumping on Noah’s back, I finally asked her for the cheat code to burp babies and where would be the best place to tap.
Could we thump to the left or right to facilitate the burp? How about fast spinning him? Or tapping him in the front? Maybe at a specific angle?
Assoc Prof Daisy (paraphrased): Burping is facilitated by the baby simply being UPRIGHT. All that tapping and beating really is meant to help him feel more comfortable.
Bonus Tip: If he’s not burping after 5-10 minutes, no need to be overzealous. Maybe there just isn’t enough air in there for a burp.
Me: #thatAwkardMoment when you realize you’ve been #physicallyabusing your child for a few weeks
I’ll do a video of this later on how we have discovered we can burp him easily. But we’ve found the shoulder method and stroking his back slowly works well.
Proud to have stopped physically abusing my son. 😛
